“Hot-wired Heart”

Lindsey Vanlandingham

I’d say a right went wrong and a heart’s undone

I’m broke in two I guess you’re not the one

There’s a road ahead I won’t look back

I have my wheels so you can have the past

Dotted lines and old dirt roads

I may drive fast but my heart leaves slow

Fly by fields and county lines

There’s life ahead and there’s nothing behind

I’ll drive until I find the piece of me

I’ve got a roadmap to recover

And a heart to give me speed

*

Hot-wired heart

You stole the key, but I’ve still got the parts

I’ll put them together and see how far

It takes to make a new start

On my hot-wired heart

*

Drive all day just to sit on the beach

And feel like home underneath my feet

Lay on the hood to watch the sky

The night will fade and the sun will rise

Windows down to feel the breeze

It’s like a healing wind rolling over me

Rain comes down and I drink it in

It’s like a cleansing wave to wash away your sin

There’s something about the pedal beneath my feet

I’ve got the memories in the rearview and the rest is waiting on me

*

Hot-wired heart

You stole the key, but I’ve still got the parts

I’ll put them together and see how far

It takes to make a new start

On my hot-wired heart
