“There’s a River They Call Love”

Lindsey Vanlandingham

There’s a river that runs true as it runs deep

You can hold it in your hands but it can be the devil to keep

Somebody once said it was beautiful and it was cruel

There’s a river they call love and it runs blue

*

Oh what a fool

You let the river take you

You let it slide over your skin

You held back the tide

Then you drank it all in

You let the river break you

You let it crash into your arms

You held on for your life

Then you gave up your heart

Oh what a fool

Look at the things I do

*

There’s a river that runs wild as it runs free

You can try to hold it back but it’ll sweep you out to sea

A tale has been told about the fool who let it in

There’s a river they call love looks like it took me again

*

Oh what a fool

You let the river take you

You let it slide over your skin

You held back the tide

Then you drank it all in

You let the river break you

You let it crash into your arms

You held on for your life

Then you gave up your heart

Oh what a fool

Look at the things I do

*

Oh don’t let me drift alone my love

If I give in will you let the river come

*

Oh what a fool

You let the river take you

You let it slide over your skin

You held back the tide

Then you drank it all in

You let the river break you

You let it crash into your arms

You held on for your life

Then you gave up your heart

Oh what a fool

Look at the things I do
