“Blue Eyed Birdie”

                                                                                          Lindsey Vanlandingham

There you are

Not a care

You sing your song

You want everyone to hear

In the morning

You were here

Then you flew away

Now you’re somewhere over there

*

Blue eyed birdie I wanna be like you

When the morning comes I wanna sing along too

*

Wish that I

Was that free

I would fly away

And take the summer air with me

I can feel it

In the wind

Summer’s gone away

And the storm is rolling in

*

Blue eyed birdie I wanna be like you

When life gets cold I wanna fly away too

*

Nothing seems

To go my way

Like the storm came in

Then decided it should stay

Stripped me down

Like the trees

Where you used to sit

And sing your morning song to me

*

Blue eyed birdie I wanna be like you

When you fly away won’t you take me too

*

My windowsill’s empty and there’s no song that’s sung to me

The cold rolled in and now you’re no where to be seen

That day I found that I was chilled to the bone

Blue eyed birdie won’t you take me home

*

Blue eyed birdie I wanna be like you

Wish I had wings so I could fly away too

*

Wish I had wings so I could fly with you
